Awards Finalist – Innisfree HA – Allotment (a-lot-meant) for Health & Growth

A disused allotment site from Brent Council has been cultivated and divided into 12 raised bed plots. Older Irish tenants of Innisfree spend their spare time working with others growing things. Innisfree has been offered a second plot to cultivate and develop into a themed fruit garden.

Why we liked this project

This project benefits a particularly challenging, often isolated client group who may not traditionally get involved.  We liked the mix of volunteers and participants involved and the added healthy eating dimension as well as the more obvious benefits of reducing isolation/loneliness and improving physical health. We also liked the way it provides an opportunity for health issues to emerge and be addressed more naturally/informally.
